I am based in London and Reading, and I work with businesses across the United Kingdom. Almost everything SEO and digital marketing involves happens inside your website, your Google accounts and your advertising platforms, and I can reach all of those from either base once you give me access. This page explains how the work runs when you and I are in different places, why your local rankings depend on your address rather than mine, and where to find the page for your area.
How the work runs at a distance
Remote working is the default for every client, including those in London and Reading. In practice it looks like this:
- A first video call to understand what you sell, who buys it, where those customers are and what has been tried before.
- Access rather than exports. You add me as a user to Google Search Console, Google Analytics, your Google Business Profile and the website, so I work from the real data instead of screenshots.
- Shared documents for the audit, the plan and any briefs, with the priorities in order and room for your comments.
- Written reports at an interval we agree, with a call whenever a decision needs talking through. Anything agreed on a call is written down afterwards.
Remote work asks one thing of you: a named person who can answer questions, approve changes and grant access without long waits. When a project stalls, slow sign-off is a far more common cause than distance.
Your address matters to Google; mine does not
Google’s Business Profile help page on local ranking names three main factors: relevance, distance and prominence. Distance is measured from the searcher, or from the place named in the search, to your business. Where your consultant works plays no part, so hiring someone in your own town gives you no head start in the local pack, and hiring someone further away costs you nothing in the rankings.
What does move local results is work on your own presence: a complete and accurate profile, consistent business details across directories, genuine reviews, and pages that make clear which places you serve. If you travel to customers rather than receiving them, Google treats you as a service-area business, and the profile is set up differently. My local SEO service covers all of this. Firms with branches in several towns usually need SEO for multiple locations, so each branch can rank where its own customers search.
Find the page for your area
Each area page deals with what is different about search for businesses there: how crowded the competition is, how people name the place when they search, and which services tend to fit. Outside London and Reading, the work is done remotely from my two bases.
London
Competing firms can sit a few streets apart, so the map results for the same search change from one neighbourhood to the next. The page on working with a London SEO and digital marketing specialist explains how I approach that.
Reading and the Thames Valley
Reading is my second base. Across the towns around it, customers tend to search by town name, and many firms serve several towns at once. Start with my page for Reading businesses, or open the page for Bracknell, Slough, Maidenhead, Wokingham, High Wycombe, Oxford and Basingstoke.
The Midlands and the East
These are regional centres where a firm often sells to its own city and to buyers further afield at the same time, so local and national search both matter. Pages for Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Milton Keynes and Cambridge.
The North of England
These are large cities made up of distinct districts and suburbs, where a business may need to be found for the city name and for the neighbourhood it actually trades in. Pages for Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield and Newcastle upon Tyne.
The South and South West
In these cities, residents, students and visitors can all search for the same service in different ways, and at different times of year. Pages for Bristol, Southampton and Brighton and Hove.
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
The way I work is the same in every nation of the UK. Where something specific to the nation affects your pages, such as Welsh-language content or legal and property terms that differ in Scotland, I plan for it from the first audit. Pages for Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast.
If your area has no page of its own
Nothing about the service changes. Send me your website and tell me where your customers are, and I will use a free SEO audit of your site to tell you what I would fix first and whether I am the right person to do it.
